Over 50% Suicidal Death Causes by Depression in India

New Delhi.The recent incident of IAS officer Mukesh Pandey committed suicide due to family discord, has highlighted the grave issue of Chronic Depression in the country. As per report of World Health Organisation on depression, India is the most depressed country in the world. Over five crore Indians suffer from depression and over three crore others suffer from anxiety disorders. With higher number of Depression Patient, India is the major contributor to global suicides. About 800000 people commit suicide worldwide every year, of these 135,000 (17%) are residents of India, a nation with 17.5% of world population.

Vinayak Bhatt of Vedic Grace Foundation informs, Urban lifestyle is so full of stress and anxiety that an estimated one in 10 people is affected by clinical depression. However, as far as incidents of Suicide attempt in depression is concerned, this tendency is majorly seen in patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In such condition meditation proves to be a highly effective and promising therapy for patient to overcome chronic depression.
Symptoms of clinical depression include, patient feel down for more than two weeks and these feelings are interfering with day to day life, have constant feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness or guilt, and thought of suicide or death, informs Vinayak Bhatt, Cosmic Meditation Counsellor, Vedic Grace Foundation.
In a Study conducted at the University of Exeter, UK showed that Cosmic Meditation Therapy has a beneficial Therapeutic effect on the symptoms of patients with severe depression. Those with depression reported that their symptoms had nearly halved within three months of starting the Cosmic Meditation treatment.
